No Oriental rug is too precious for Captain Rug Wash

Captain Rug Wash (AKA Andi) is Plymouth’s only qualified master rug cleaner – a year-long study into Oriental rugs, with a further rug cleaning qualification with the IICRC. He has over 10 years’ experience, specialising in high-end Oriental rug cleaning for those beautiful, traditional, hand-woven pieces, bringing back their exquisite colours and removing dirt and odours.

Captain Rug Wash is also a registered Woolsafe and Textile Pro Fibre Care Specialist, meaning he can restore damaged rugs as well as being a superhero Oriental rug cleaner.

Captain Rug Wash operates his rug cleaning business across the South West and has added a few layers of PPE on top of his superhero cape to be COVID-secure, so do not hesitate to get in touch if you have an Oriental rug that needs reviving.

Why Professional Oriental Rug Cleaning?

Captain Rug Wash considers Oriental rugs to be hand-woven pieces of art that deserve to be treated as such. He suggests that, in communal areas, cleaning takes place annually to maintain the integrity of the fibres. In bedrooms this can be longer, between 12-18 months is ideal.

The dyes used in your oriental rug are natural and often vegetable-based meaning that aggressive cleaning products can damage the dyes, removing them or cause them to bleed which can be expensive to repair. Captain Rug Wash uses special modern machinery to replicate the traditional, gentle Oriental rug cleaning and drying methods used by the villagers where these rugs were originally made, maintaining the integrity of the delicate fibres and dyes in your beautiful rug. You can read more about this in the section below or our blog post How to clean Oriental rugs.

The Cleaning Process

  • Your rug is collected from your home, it is best that Oriental rug cleaning takes place in a specialised facility where it can be cared for properly.
  • A full, in-depth inspection of your rug is carried out by the Master Rug Cleaner Captain Rug Wash himself to decide the best plan of action.
  • A dusting machine is first of all used to vibrate out the soil trapped deep in the pile of your Oriental rug and then vacuumed.
  • The rug will then be submerged in a cold water cleaning pit and washed with shampoo with rotary brushes to help gently remove and stubborn trapped dirt.
  • Your Oriental rug is then rinsed thoroughly to remove any traces of cleaning product and remaining dirt.
  • Excess water will be removed using a spinning machine or specialised extractor before your rug is thoroughly dried in a temperature-controlled drying room with dehumidifiers and air movers.
  • You will be offered a range of optional post-treatments to help protect your rugs such as fibre protection, moth repellent, rug repair, fringe trimming or the addition of a non-slip rug pad.
  • Once dry your rug is protectively wrapped before being delivered back to you.

Captain Rug Wash looks after your rugs as if they were his own and is fully insured so that you have full peace of mind that your beautiful rugs are safe with him.

Captain Rug Wash is sure you’ll be happy with your sparkling rug but, if for some reason the clean does not meet your predetermined expectation, he will clean it again for free.
