Why is it important to have your upholstery professionally cleaned?

Just like having your carpets cleaned regularly by a professional carpet cleaner, it is also especially important to have your upholstery deep cleaned by a professional upholstery cleaner at least once a year. Whether your sofa is polyester, viscose or cotton, a professional upholstery cleaner will know what cleaning solutions and what cleaning methods to use to deep clean your upholstery.
A thorough deep cleaning of your upholstery will remove stains, grease, odours, dirt and dry soil. Special care is needed to clean the piping, skirts and buttons so as not to damage them.

Captain Rug Wash does not recommend you clean your sofa cushions yourself in the washing machine; this can bleed colours in the fabric and even shrink the cushion covers. Shrunken covers they will no longer fit on your cushions properly.

You must seek professional cleaning advice to clean your upholstery. Your sofa has many different fibres, and there is a danger of over-wetting the cushions and frame. The foam of the cushions can hold onto the water and if it’s left wet for more than 48 hours will start to cause mould, which will cause odours and permanent damage to the fabric.

Many sofa manufacturers use a fibre called viscose which is a cheap alternative to silk. Getting this fibre over wet can cause it to break apart. Professional upholstery cleaners know how to spot the fibres that make up your sofa, and they can safely clean your sofa without causing any damage.

The main areas that get dirty on a sofa are the headrests and arms. These are usually stubborn grease marks from where people rest their heads and hands. Another common problem with lighter coloured sofas is dye transfer from blue and black jeans. The dye gets transferred from the jeans to the and is why I always recommend washing any new trousers a few times before sitting on a lighter colour sofa.

If Captain Rug Wash cleaned your sofa, he would remove all the dry soil and then wet clean or use his superpower dry cleaning solution. He would then use his superpower lungs and blow your sofa dry. Only joking, he uses blowers machines in a well-ventilated room to dry your sofa as fast as possible.
