Why use a professional carpet cleaner?
All carpets can be professionally cleaned by a carpet cleaner, whether the carpet is made from wool, nylon, viscose, silk or polypropylene, or a wool and poly mix.
It is always advised to get your carpets cleaned by a professional carpet cleaner rather than hiring a machine and doing it yourself. Hire machines and cheap supermarket cleaning products can cause more damage than people realise, including;
- mould,
- damp after over wetting the carpet,
- dye bleed of rugs and certain upholstery, and
- shrinkage of certain natural fibres.
Avoiding those costly mistakes is just one reason why you use a professional carpet cleaner.
A professional carpet cleaner will have been professionally trained in how to clean carpets effectively using the proper equipment and safe cleaning solutions for both the fibre content of the carpet and the occupants of the home/office. The carpet cleaner will also have specialist knowledge of how to get every type of stain and odour out of the carpet. Keeping a healthy indoor environment is particularly important and a professional carpet cleaner can help you with this and advise you on further steps to take.
There are many trade associations in the carpet cleaning industry that any professional carpet cleaner will be a part of, such as the NCCA (National Carpet Cleaners Association) the Woolsafe Organization. These are the British organisations who provide thorough training for all professional carpet cleaners. It also means that if you have a problem with a carpet cleaner, you can contact these organisations for assistance.
How do I clean my carpets?
All carpets, no matter the fibre content should be vacuumed using a HEPA filter vacuum cleaner. The carpet cleaner will choose the correct cleaning solution for the fibre of the carpet. If it is wool, they should be using a product that is safe to use on wool carpets. Once this solution is sprayed over the carpet, it is then agitated with a vacuum-like machine or by brushes. There will be a dwell time for most pre-sprays to successfully break down the dirt, soil and grease in a carpet.
The carpet cleaner will then set up his hot water extraction machine and get the water hot. The carpet is then rinsed out using the wand of this machine. This machine extracts out all the sand, soil, stains, grease and dirt deep in the pile of the carpet. It is then dried by the wand and to aid quicker drying, a professional carpet cleaner will place air movers in the area that has been cleaned. These air movers move air across the freshly cleaned carpet helping to dry it quickly. Drying carpets quickly is particularly important as this stops any mould and damp from happening and stopping any possible shrinkage of the carpet.
How often should I get my carpets cleaned?
Carpets should be cleaned on an annual basis. Carpets act as a filter in the home, trapping all the sand, soot, grease, hair, skin and many other pollutants deep in the pile of the carpet. Like any filter in the home, it should be cleaned and maintained regularly. We recommend that all carpets, rugs and upholstery are professionally cleaned by a carpet cleaner at least once every year to 18 months.
Professional carpet cleaning should be undertaken by a carpet cleaner more often if someone in the home has allergies. Cleaning products and cleaning methods should be used that will not make allergy symptoms worse for the occupant. A professional carpet cleaner can advise you in cleaning carpets, upholstery and rugs for better health conditions.
