Why it is important to clean your Persian rugs?
At Captain Rug Wash we often get asked: “Why it is important to clean your Persian rugs?” So we thought we would write a short blog for you all.
It’s especially important to have your Persian rugs cleaned regularly. It depends on how often they should be cleaned by what room the rug is in. For example, Persian rugs in your hallway, lounge and dining room should be cleaned by a professional Persian rug cleaner once a year. Persian rugs that are in bedrooms and guest rooms should be cleaned every 1-3 years. If people in your home have allergies it is advisable to get your Persian rugs and other furnishings cleaned on a more regular basis.
Cleaning Persian rugs regularly has many benefits. It can benefit the health of the people in the home and can also improve the indoor air quality of the property. Cleaning Persian rugs regularly can help them last for many years.
Dirt from the outside and inside environments fall into the pile of the rug and overtime is walked deeper and deeper into the foundation of the rug, where the knots are. Normal domestic vacuuming cannot get this dirt out from the foundation of the rug. This dirt creates a layer deep in the pile, over time this layer gets hard and more difficult to remove with normal domestic vacuuming. The dry soil that finds its way into the pile of the rug is very abrasive and acts like a knife and cuts the fibres of the rug, this results in wear and tear and traffic marks. Traffic marks are the areas of the rug where you walk the most, these wear areas and traffic areas can become parament. These areas can have dye loss and dye bleed from being walked on more often. All this activity on the rug can damage the wool fibres. To breath new life into your rug and help stop the wear and tear, you need the rug professionally cleaned.
Having a good relationship with a professional Persian rug cleaner is especially important. They can show you how to care for your rugs, so they last for generations to come. Persian rugs are made of wool, cotton and sometimes have silk in them. These fibres are very delicate and can stain and mark easily. Professional Persian rug cleaning can prevent these spillages from becoming permanent stains.
Professional cleaning is always recommended verses off the supermarket shelf or hire machines. Even some carpet cleaners do not have experience in cleaning Persian rugs. There are many factors to think about when cleaning Persian rugs. Do the dyes in the rug bleed? What is the fibre content of the rug and how does that fibre react with water? Will the rug shrink or buckle? Can the rug be wet cleaned or will a professional cleaner need to use low moisture or a dry-cleaning system?
An inexperienced cleaner or a rug owner can very easily damage the rug if they do not know how to clean the rug safely. It’s always advisable to seek out the advice of a professional Persian rug cleaner before you get your Persian rug cleaned.
